Hi Tumblr, in case you were wondering if there was a real person behind this blog, here is proof that there is! If you weren’t oh well it’s for a good cause. My friend Jake nominated me for the ice bucket challenge to raise awareness and donations for ALS and of course I had to accept! I nominated nnyleuqcaj, my brother Wesley, and my friend Sonia. Muahaha Sonia is gonna murder me probably
PS Please note that English is in fact Jacque’s first language (lol @ “nimonet”) and don’t mind the awk pause where I was like wait wat am I doing I WAS SO JITTERY OK we came up with this plan within the hour after my friend nimoneted me since were so busy with classes/work/volunteer today
PPS Even though we didn’t mention it, we still donated to the cause as broke college kids, so if we can, you DEFINITELY can! Also, shoutout to the security guard who let us use the pool after hours in the name of charity
Thank you, kindly! You rock twice as hard and your blog is seriously fantastic. Were you the one who loved Boyhood? If you are, I am DYING to see it and would love to know what you thought about it! filmlust
Probably some of the greatest advice I’ve received ever. I’m doing my best! Thanks, Jake! imnotrighthanded
Here’s my spiel on the #ALSicebucketchallenge (get ready it’s a doozy friends ;P) and I hope that if you do, or especially if you don’t share my view, you will read it regardless : I wanted to get to the bottom of the purpose for people pouring ice on their heads since I see people out there have a problem with it. Finally, I found this:
"ALS is a condition where the body becomes paralyzed gradually and the feeling of the cold ice gives the person doing the challenge an insight of what it is like to be a sufferer of the disease. So to everyone saying that people doing the challenge are stupid or useless, you have to realize that they’re doing it for a reason”
Additionally, (and I can’t believe there are people who don’t know this) YOU CAN’T GENERALIZE. You cannot say “I know someone who didn’t donate, but still dumped ice on their head, therefore, this whole challenge is useless and NO 1 IS REALLY DONATING AHH” because that’s just not true. The challenge has raised over 22.9 MILLION dollars (http://www.thehealthsite.com/news/how-much-money-has-the-als-ice-bucket-challenge-raised-till-now/) and I’m a pretty damn poor college kid and guess what? I did the challenge! AND I donated! So did my lovely roommate! So it’s not fair to take one or two people and use them as an example for the rest of the country!
Plus, there will always be disingenuous people. There will always be stupid people. And I absolutely know that there are people who do not care about Lou Gehrig’s disease and did the challenge for fun, but so what? They’re still spreading the word. It may not mean anything to that one person, but maybe someone else sees it and goes “what’s ALS?” and they decide to educate themselves. Is the challenge still a bad thing? There’s another person in this world who is aware of an extremely crippling disease that’s taken over some amazing people including Stephen Hawking, David Niven, Jason Becker, and obviously Lou Gehrig himself! That, to me, is NOT nothing. And it’s not useless or stupid. It’s the little wins that count. Maybe that one person decides to pursue a medical profession to help find a cure. You don’t know. You can’t say no one’s donating. You can’t say people aren’t educating themselves because it’s just not true.
If you wanna talk about the “wasting water” argument, feel free to message me because I can absolutely hold my own in that discussion. Now I’m absolutely done because I can’t change peoples’ mind, though I hope you do.
